We're a day early for Punxsutawney Phil, but we thought we'd offer up a few random and favorite posts. Enjoy the Wily Jeneric Redux.

Vital update
Toddler Wily had her 15 month checkup on Wednesday. Once again, she took her vaccines like a champ and slept them off in the afternoon.
Height: 31" (57th percentile)
Weight: 22# 14 oz (44th percentile)
Right in the middle of the pack.

If you've ever...
If you've ever...
put your sock on your nose...
put your sock on your ear...
tied your sock around your foot...
put your sock on your hand...
then this post is for you.
Jeneric got a little creative putting her tights on one morning, wearing them as a belt, hat and eventually, a scarf.

From this angle, it looks a little Dr. Who-esque.

Monday Mayhem
We had a pretty low-key weekend. The highpoint may have been playing with the packing material that ensconced our recent flour order from King Arthur.

The next Ansel Adams?
Who knows! But for now, Jeneric (and occasionally Toddler Wily) is having a ball with her nearly indestructible camera.

It is not chess
Eric's latest game of choice is Arimaa. It uses a chess board, a few of the chess pieces and is 'a deep strategy game with simple rules.' To most people, it's a lot like chess. Don't tell Eric I said that.
For months, Eric has tried to convince friends and family to play. He convinced both Nick and his Mom to play a round (neither has played again). Teresa played a few rounds online, but declared it too much like chess. And Mystery Politico - the person most likely to enjoy Arimaa - has yet to even visit the website.
What's a guy to do? Well, if you're Eric, you water the rules down a tad and teach your oldest to play.

Eric is smiling because he's about to win.

Not so fast! Jeneric has a few tricks up her sleeves!
She's won a few games already. Look out world!

Sleigh ride
No, not a sleigh ride. Sledding. Jeneric is very clear on the distinction. A sleigh ride involves a horse, jingle bells and, well, a sleigh. This weekend, we went sledding - and for those who've forgotten, may we remind you of:
Attempt #1
Attempt #2
Attempt #2.1
Yes. Well. We had exceptionally high hopes. Eric and Jeneric had taken several runs down the small embankment on the west side of our house. She was thrilled. We talked of bigger hills, where the ride was longer and faster. She was ecstatic. We set a date. We ate a hearty breakfast. We bundled up (even poor Toddler Wily, who, once bundled could not walk, move her arms or turn her head. Think "A Christmas Story").
And we hit the hill with high hopes. Then the wind picked up... and up and up. As in years past, Eric, this time accompanied by Toddler Wily, showed Jeneric a sample of sledding.
Toddle Wily was ecstatic by the ride. Jeneric, however, was not amused. She did not want to go sledding. She wanted off that hill. It had taken longer to bundle up than we'd spent on the sledding hill. So we did what any decent parent would do: we bribed her. Yes indeed, with the promise of some tasty hot chocolate when we returned home, Jeneric took one ride down the hill and then headed for the car.
Once home, we discovered Jeneric's true winter passion: snow angels.

Checking out their handy work.

Hi Mama!
Demonstrating the correct method for avoiding the ever-distracting footprint-in-the-snow-angel-when-you-stand-up problem.

Can identify more birds than Big Bird
This is our second year participating in Project Feeder Watch, a citizen science project out of Cornell University. Both Jeneric and Toddler Wily get into checking out the back and front windows for birds. This year, Jeneric is getting good at identifying many of the common visitors - Black Capped Chickadee, Cardinals and her favorite, the Goldfinch (when we invested in a new feeder, she requested something that the goldfinch would like).

Eric is filling the feeder. Again. Our bird community can devour a full feeder in a day, although usually they are polite and take two days. Oh - that pink rabbit in the bottom left corner? Jeneric wrote a note to the birds on the back side and tape it to the window so they could read it. We do not know what it says because she insists we can "just read it."

Jeneric takes a turn with the binoculars. And the neighbors close their shades...
Now Toddler Wily takes a turn. Sort of.

Christmas, one more time
In Minnesota, Christmas can extend for days as we meet up with all of our friends and family. Here, we meet up with Great Grandpa.
Toddler Wily found several remotes that she recommissioned as cell phones. We did have to take out the batteries as eventually she figured out how to turn the tv on. and off. and on. and off. and on....

Jeneric had a blast helping Great Grandpa open his presents.

And eventually Toddler Wily got in on the action.

One last picture - just because it's cute. Santa left matching owl pajamas for Jeneric and Toddler Wily - a big hit.

Bowled over
Jeneric heard that Grandpa was on several bowling leagues and was excited to try it out herself. Grandpa took her to Echo Lanes and showed her the ropes.

They have special 6 and 8 pound balls for small folks - and bright bowling shoes to match!

The master at work, picking up a spare.

Aunt Kelly - excited for bowling (and maybe she snagged a strike, too).

Eric sizes up the lane conditions.

And Jenni gets her one and only strike of the evening.
Jeneric was tired out after the first game. She hung out with Grandma and Toddler Wily for the second game.

And now, for the action shot...

Cut-out Cookies, part deux
Christmas is certainly about cookies. Toddler Jeneric was a big help with cutting out cookies and decorating...

until she discovered that those sprinkles were nothing more than sparkly sugar.
