Cut-out Cookies, part deux

Christmas is certainly about cookies. Toddler Jeneric was a big help with cutting out cookies and decorating...








until she discovered that those sprinkles were nothing more than sparkly sugar.

Mmm, tasty little gingerbread people

In true holiday tradition, the Wily Jeneric family baked a batch of gingerbread people (as an aside, it is challenging to find a simple cutter for a gingerbread man!). Our recipe came straight from Cook's Illustrated and is quite delicious.

Jeneric didn't want to help with making the dough, but she was ready and willing to help with the cutting out.






Toddler Wily just clowned around!


One little person lost his arms en route to the cookie sheet. Jeneric was nonplussed and explained that this one was just different and perhaps a little shorter than the rest.


The verdict? Outstanding! and, More please!

C is for Cookie!

Eric, Jeneric and friends whipped up some no-bake cookies. The recipe called for quick oats - which we don't have - so they substituted regular oats. The resulting cookies were edible, if a little chewy. Toddler Wily, however, found them quite delicious.

Jeneric and friend felt that while technically these were cookies, there are better examples on the market.

Siskel & Ebert

It finally happened. Toddler Jeneric chose to watch another movie - instead of Annie. She was very excited about this movie, waiting patiently for the star to make an appearance.

Toddler Wily was not so impressed. She's not yet keen on tv. The computer, well, that's a different story (we use our MacBook to watch movies, so this can create a bit of a challenge).

Unrelated but interesting to note, Eric baked some awesome bread on Sunday. Both girls devoured several pieces with dinner.

Chocolate Cookies

It has been 6 months since we last made them, but apparently they made a lasting impression.  After lunch today, a well behaved Toddler Jeneric asked for some dessert.  Cake was her first choice, but since we didn't have any I offered to bake some with her while her sister was asleep.  Cookies, she tried next.  Same answer on my part.  In the end we settled on a piece of pez candy.  After that was quickly eaten, TJ announced that we would make chocolate cookies next.  After discovering we were missing many important ingredients, including the chocolate, I tried renegotiating the plan.  Peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies were shot down.  So was cake.  Three substitutions latter, we had success:
