We returned to what we’d expected – an empty trap. Not yet deterred, we sliced up the apple, slathered it with peanut butter and set the trap. We went to bed.
Did you know Gus is diurnal? We did but apparently didn’t consider that fact when we set the trap.
Did you know possums are noctural? We did but apparently didn’t consider that fact when we set the trap.
Did you know that possums love apples? We didn’t, but a quick google educated us on that.
So yes, we awoke in the morning to find one rather scared possum in our trap. Eric released him/her, cleaned out the trap and rebaited it for an afternoon catch of Gus.

When our groundhog raided or organic food co-op boxes (in my garage), the little vermin ate alittle from each box, some leafy greens, some peaches, some cantaloupe, some carrots, some nectarines. It had quite a run of the organic food co-op. We caught ours during the day with apple & peanut butter (after catching a squirrel) and a sprung trap sans the vermin.
Try a wide range of items at once to tempt his palate. Gus will not be able to resist a buffet.
